Battle of Britain Commemoration-Tues 18th August, Biggin Hil, KENT
Eighteen Spitfires and six Hurricanes will gather at Biggin Hill on Tuesday 18th August 2015, 75 years on to the day from the ‘hardest day’ of the 1940 air battle to honour the courageous pilots, engineers, armourers, operations staff and ground crews who faced constant attack from the Nazi Luftwaffe on that day and during that period.

The Spitfires and Hurricanes will fly a commemoration sortie with three formations, starting with a stream take-off at 1pm.

First formation will head south to overfly the Solent, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth.

Second formation will head east to overfly Dover, the former RAF Hawkinge and the Battle of Britain Memorial on the white cliffs at Capel-Le-Ferne

Third formation will route over former Battle of Britain airfields at West Malling, Detling and GRAVESEND.
The three formations return to Biggin Hill for a stream landing to park in a line on the subsidiary runway.

Fighters engine start at: 12.45
Three flights of eight fighters take off: 13.00

Hamlyn Flight - To patrol Dover
Grice Flight - To patrol Isle of Wight
Mortimer Flight - To patrol 11 Group stations

Battle of Britain flying display – aircraft to be confirmed

Fighters return: 13.45 to 14.00

I'll be heading down to Biggin Hill weather permitting!

If you get the chance watch the BBC prog' about Ewan McGregor and his RAF fighter pilot brother and their take on the Battle of Britain... some great bits of them in a Spit and part of the BofB flight...

We went to Duxford last year and saw a Spit on the runaway, which was great, more so when the pilot started her up. First time I'd seen one fly close up. Beautiful.

Anyway let's not forget the Hurricane.

Was always keen on the kraut Me110, Da Zeestroyer. Soon got sussed out though .

Cheryl Cole as Section Officer Harvey - "Why, eye, divvinya shout at me Mr Warwick!"

Allan Carr as WO (Mr) Warwick - "Earrr, Chezah put that fag out..."

Paul O'Grady as ACM Hugh Dowding - "Oi Winnie, we've run out of planes, like"

Tom Cruise as Squadron Leader Canfield - "Ops, my engine is over heating and so am I; I either launch or I blow up. Plus where's my booster cushion I can hardly see out!"

Ricky Gervaise as Squadron Leader Skipper - "How many hours on Spits, Simon? Let's make it 5 before Jerry has you for breakfast...yeah, did you see what I did there, I ridiculed a Pilot Officer, yeah, have you seen my space invader dance?"

Mark Almond as Sgt Pilot Andy - "All I got was a belly full of..." :yuk:

Hugh Grant as Squadron Leader Harvey - "Never again, or you'll be spread all over the countryside like Duchy Original Sandringham Strawberry Preserve"

Maybe even Rik Mayall as Squadron Commander the Lord Flasheart???

If you were in Henkiel 111 plodding towards Blighty and you saw them peeling out of the sun, I think it be more then 500 pounders you'd be dropping from the bomb bay.

"Actung Spitfure"

Salutes the few.

I really loved that plane, and I'm glad the RAF brought them in

Went to see him in Scotland once Cough and it was pissing down.

He turned the engine on and literally from the 100 metres away that we were behind the plane, the engine power and heat dried the rain before it hit the floor. Unbelievable.

He even made a videa called Phanton Phinale.

He may rake it in now as a Wing Commander, but he doesn't half miss flying the buggers.

Haha, In recognition of its record of downing large numbers of Soviet-built MiGs, the Phantom was called the "World's Leading Distributor of MiG Parts"

Grumpster, F4 Phantom, my favourite American jet that and the F14 Tomcat

Phantom nicknames:

The Phantom gathered a number of nicknames during its career. Some of these names included "Snoopy", "Rhino", "Double Ugly", "Old Smokey", the "Flying Anvil", "Flying Footlocker", "Flying Brick", "Lead Sled", the "Big Iron Sled" and the "St. Louis Slugger"

I drive past Biggin Hill every day on the way to and from work. Whatever the time of year, the Hurricane and Spitfire always look superb.

My cousin used to fly one of these before they were decomishioned...

.....so have been to bloody loads of air shows. 18 Spitfires in one place is pretty special though (think I've only seen 4) and sadly that's probably almost as many as are still able to fly left in existence.

They probably had to ship them from around the globe to get so many.
